Franklin Graham asks prayers for father's recovery

Franklin Graham is asking for prayers that his father, Billy Graham, regain the strength he's lost since his 95th birthday party last month.

In a letter posted Tuesday on the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association's Website, the younger Graham said a recent bout with a respiratory infection has left the Charlotte-born evangelist "extremely weak but his vitals are good. Our family would appreciate your prayers for him that the Lord would strengthen him."

Though Billy Graham spent two days in the hospital late last month, he is now resting in his Montreat home.

Franklin Graham also wrote in his letter that his father was encouraged by the release of his recent book, "The Reason for My Hope -- Salvation," and has already begun work on another one "about a subject that he feels that God has laid on his heart."

Here is the full letter.

THe lost strength since his birthday party is God's punishment for politicking with selfish and hateful people like Glenn Beck, Robert Murdoch, Donald Trump, Sarah Palin, etc. (certainly no more crazy than blaming Hurricane Katrina on gays)

It's not God's punishment, but Billy being totally dismayed by his son for failing to rise above politics. Billy must be so disappointed at what Franklin is doing to his legacy.

Billy Graham is neither dismayed nor punished- he is 95. Franklin has dedicated his life to spreading God's love to the poor and needy around the world through Samaritan's Purse.

There is nothing, repeat, NOTHING about God's work that is being done by Franklin Graham. Samaritan's Purse is a cover for his reprehensible politics. The good it does is dwarfed by the war on women and the poor waged by the conservative politicians Franklin endorses.

Franklin is a raging homophobe, and you need look no further than the far-right ideologues that attended his father's recent birthday "party" for confirmation of his lack of humanity. Donald Trump? Are you kidding me? Christ would be appalled. The entire gospel of the New Testament was devoted to disavowing people like him and the things they stand for. The fact that Franklin is completely oblivious to that says all you need to know about him.

Never has an apple fallen further from the tree.

I am astonished by the immaturity of some of the people on this blog! Billy Graham is one of the most loving and caring men of this lifetime! He is not being punished by Gd! If anything Billy's Liord and Savior is saying to him Well done My good and faithful servant, you can now come home!" It will be a sad day for those of us left behind but oh what a glourious day for the Reverends lease, people stop te hat! Billy Grahamn! I am sure 'RSVP Ruth Bell Grahamn will be waiting for him when he crosses over.

It's interesting that Franklin Graham suddenly wants to turn some of the spotlight on his already sick father during the height of the world's attention on Nelson Mandela. So very interesting.

The shameless huckster gene was definitely passed on from father to son.

Nothing quite as Godly as planting the seed for future new book sales, real quick before your dad dies.

God Ble$$!!!

At least in death, Billy will be able finally to escape the everyday, living embarrassment of having a charlatan (that's not Charlottean) like Franklin as a son. No doubt, Franklin is hopeful that he's amassed enough dirty buds to be able to survive without having Billy as his cover. Franklin Graham's actions and behaviors -- past, present, and, no doubt, future -- are so painfully dishonest and anti-Christian in every way.

A harangue of hateful, judgmental comments from people who condemn Franklin Graham for being hateful and judgmental. Oh, the irony!

Franklin must be doing something right....to fire up the lefties ....Rock on !

I am praying for the Rev. Bill Graham that God will strengthen him and bless him in every way. He has been an inspiration to thousand of people. He has been faithful in standing on the truth of God's word.

Tim, how about moderating your column.

A lot of these comments are political hate comments.

Your column was supposed to be about a son asking for prayer for his dad.

So what if the son is engaged with disagreeable politics.

Anon 12:26 - That's really all you've got, isn't it? Calling other posters names. That's the default response for somebody like you, who no doubt thinks of himself as a good Christian, when you can't refute an opposition argument on merit. Typical.

Because, you know, Donald Trump has SO MUCH in common with Jesus, right? Sounds like Franklin Graham's "ministry" is right up your alley. Neither of you have any idea what Christ was talking about. He certainly wasn't glorifying greed and the headlong pursuit of money.
